To my companions on the journey,
The development of a passionate spirit comes from being engaged with our Lord. The 40 days of Lent are a time to ramp up that engagement through the use of traditional spiritual practices of prayer, sacrificial living and giving, and attention to God’s holy Word. This year my own Lenten focus is specifically centering on prayer.
So, I am inviting you…at 3:29 p.m. each day…PRAY!
I shared this invitation in my Ash Wednesday sermon with some of these thoughts:
Prayer takes deliberate work and time. That’s why I have appreciated what Martin Luther, the great reformer is quoted as saying: “I have so much to do today. I’ll need to spend another hour on my knees (in prayer).” To him, prayer was not a mechanical duty but a source of power in releasing and multiplying energies to meet the challenges of a full life. Without that deliberate time to engage the power of God within him, Luther found himself time and again to be that much less effective in living. For us prayer can be a significant source of power, for through it we are connected with our powerful and loving Lord and God…
Recently we changed the address of the church to “329”
So, at 3:29 p.m. each day…PRAY!
Through it we will open up a daily connection through which God can engage us with a source of passion and power, releasing and multiplying energies within us to meet the challenges of our full lives.tLbwy...pjl
